Under 15 Tournament at Haverhill
Fenner, Rayner and Brame sound like a firm of dodgy undertakers; they are in fact the dodgy management team of our newly formed under 15 side and on Sunday took their young, keen and dynamic side to Haverhill to play our old rivals Hundon and Haverhill in a round robin cup final tournament. The burning question on everyones lips was would the teams recently rehearsed running between the wickets drills, practised for so long with manager Rayner that the team were so fatigued that they could no longer back up let alone run, have an effect on our performance? And the answer? The teams running was fantastic and the undoubted difference between the three sides. YES WE WON THE CUP. And how those dodgy undertakers smiled after the match; has there ever been such wide smirks from funeral directors since the end of the plague? Man of the tournament Tom Fenner was only out once in the two matches for and aggregate run toatal of 93. Captain Jack Brame led from the front [despite suffering a leg injury] with hard hitting performances in both games and important wickets. Oh how the rest of the clubs' teams could have learnt from the running between the wickets of these two; i think it convinced them that cricket was as demanding a game as footaball. Jack Kimber intimidated the opposition with his pace and during the crucial last game against Haverhill ripped out the openers. Jack Kilpatrick kept wicket well and Sam Rayner held his nerve well to bowl the final two overs of Haverhaill's run chase to win the game for Brockley. The overall team performance performance was however the key to a satisfying win, with cameo batting performances from Grimwood, Carnegue and Brame and enthusiastic fielding from everyone espicially Grimwood and Bowler. The team and their undertaker managers can be very proud of a superb performance. Many thanks to the excellent group of vocal Brockley supporters who seemed to enjoy the win as much as the boys. Lets hope the under 12s perform as well in their cup final at Weston Coville next Sunday. Phil |
